I do not usually do recipes here but I rediscovered this one again recently. This may well be a complete rip off of the Avoca brown bread but here we go anyway. This is the easiest thing to make if you have 15 minutes of prep time and all day to eat it:
- 300g of coarse brown flour
- 200g of plain white flour
- a little salt
- 3 tablespoons of bran and 2 of wheat germ
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
Add all of these into a large bowl and mix thoroughly. I occasionally put in a handful of linseed and /or sunflower seeds.
Add one table spoon of black treacle although honey will probably work too. Use the 500-600ml of regular milk you then add to get the treacle off the spoon.
Mix the whole thing up again. Place the end mixture into a (very important this) pre-greased loaf tin and bake in a pre-heated oven for 20 minutes at gas mark 6 and then for another hour at mark 3.
Cool, cut and make the tae. It’s simply great.
