Far from wanting to give more oxygen to the posting and subsequent racist comments over on Twenty Major’s blog, I think it’s important to reflect on what an Irish citizen said yesterday at the launch of a yet another study on Traveller health:
…one of the Croke Park stands [launch was there] would hold all the Travellers in Ireland “so why are we such a big problem. We are Irish. It’s not as if we just dropped in. We have been around for centuries.”
Are we going to be, in the next fifty years, saying the same about third generation Ugandans and Croats?
Free speech and saying what you want anonymously is one thing. Its responsible use is quite another. Because you have human rights, you have responsibilities to be respectful of other peoples’ human rights.
