With the leadership of the Progressive Democrats in session this afternoon to “reflect” on their position vis a vis Big Bertie’s plain-as-the-nose-on-your-face dodgy dealings, it might be time to question why they remain is government so long. The rumour on the campaign trail this afternoon was that they’ll pull out tonight just after the Sunday papers have been put to print, thereby avoiding terrible headlines in the morning.
Last November, serious questions were asked of Mick McDowell why he did not pull the plug then. Since this time, things have gone from bad to worse for the Peedees. Considering that they are at 2% of the vote in today’s Lansdowne Poll, can we expect any less than Big Mick’s ‘up the lamp post’ tactics this time around?
The focus will undoubtedly turn to the Green Party and the PDs will start saying things like ‘a vote for the Greens is a vote for a Fianna Fail government’. Ruthless times are ahead.
